Letter to the Editor

Did you read Carolyn Dorgelo’s Feb 9 Letter to the Editor of the Herald Palladium singing the praises of the book sorting committee? In short, Carolyn was so impressed by the book sorters turnout in the inclement weather that she stated, “I thanked them when they came and thanked them again as they left after completing the job they came to do. These highly motivated people expressed so eloquently one of the many strengths of this area and of our nation. I must deeply express my thanks and let all of you know just how amazing they are. Wow!”

Target Grant Update

Books and other materials have been ordered with money from the Target grant for the program, Every Child Ready to Read® @ your library®. Lila Toney, children’s librarian, will be presenting the program. Details will be in the next newsletter. Lila is pictured with a book bag and books for the program.

Book Sale Committee Chairs

The chairs of the Book Sale are looking for two people to help chair the book sale for next year. One person has already volunteered and it would be nice to have two more people. Carolyn Dorgelo and Suellen Klein have everything written down and will help train people.

TARGET GRANT
The Friends of the Lincoln Township Public Library announced a partnership with Target for sponsorship of its program, Every Child Ready to Read® @ your library®.

Carol Reigle, President of the Friends, and Lila Toney, Youth Services Coordinator, are thrilled to receive the $3,000 grant awarded by Target to fund the program. Reigle stated that, “the Friends applied for the grant because Lila Toney and the Lincoln Township Public Library are committed to helping every child learn to read.” The Friends organization has over 100 members who volunteer many hours to enhance the services of the library.

Benton Harbor store manager Kim Godfrey stated that, “Target stores are delighted to give back to the community and that every week Target gives more than $2 million to vital community partnerships across the nation.”

Toney stated that the “Every Child Ready to Read® @ your library® really consists of three programs designed for parents and caregivers of preschoolers. The Early Talker program is designed for ages 0-2, the Talkers program for ages 2-3, and Pre-Readers for ages 4-5.”

Materials for the program have been designed by the Public Library Association (PLA) and the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and are available through the American Library Association. Toney stated that the grant will allow her to “purchase materials for parents and caregivers participating in the program which they may keep.”

Laysha Ward, vice president of community relations at Target reported, “We’re proud to partner with The Friends of the Lincoln Township Public Library as part of our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities where our guests and team members live and work.” Reigle added that, “Lila Toney will present this program and anyone interested may contact the library.”

BOOK CARTS

*Friends Purchase Carts, Carts, and more Carts!***

The Friends recently purchased six carts for the library staff. Carts are some of the most useful and important pieces of equipment at the library! The holdings of the library, i.e., books and materials are extremely important; however, carts are used to move the holdings… and more!

The staff is extremely grateful and reported that carts are always in demand and have many uses including: moving books from one section to another, processing materials, shelving books, weeding materials, and moving food and craft items for children’s and teen’s reading programs.
