**Library Elf is a third-party site. The Lincoln Township Public Library does not guarantee this service. Patrons are responsible for keeping track of item due dates and paying fines for late items.
Renewing your library card? If you are given a new card/barcode, you must log into your Library Elf account and update your library barcode number in order for announcements to continue to be sent to you. Library Elf only accesses the barcode number you have registered and is not linked to our computer system for updates on account information. Only patrons can access their Library Elf accounts with the password they choose at time of registration.
Freegal will work with a Mac or a PC.
How do I access Freegal?
- There is a link and instructions on the library website. (www.lincolntownshiplibrary.org)
- Only patrons who live in our service area will have access (no Michicards).
- You will sign in with the barcode on your Lincoln Township Library card and your last name.
- Each patron will receive three downloads per week.
Freegal provides access to Sony artists only.
- If you don’t find an artist, chances are they do not work with Sony. Go to the Sony Music webs
ite to find out if your favorite artist is available. - Songs with explicit lyrics will be filtered out.
How does Freegal Music work?
- A download usage counter is located in the upper right corner of freegalmusic.com displaying your weekly allotment.
- For instance, 1/3 means that you have a weekly limit of three downloads, and you have used one of those downloads.
How do I search for songs?
- You may use the navigation at the top of the page to browse by keyword, genre, featured artist or newly added artist.
- There is also an advanced search page with more options.
- Freegal Music also offers an easy to use A-Z quick find at the bottom of the homepage.
- Artist’s names should be entered in first name last name format.
- Artists that begin with A or The should be searched for under A or T instead of the first letter of the rest of the name. Ex. The Rolling Stones will be under T instead of R.
How much does Freegal cost?
- There is no charge to you for the music.
- You get to keep the music you download. It will not disappear from your computer.
This sounds too good to be true. Is it legal?
- Yes! Freegal is short for free and legal. The library has already purchased the songs before making them available to you.
- All songs from Freegal are DRM free. The goal of DRM is to make sure that piracy is prevented.
- DRM-free music allows people to listen to music on any device they choose, for as long as they want, and at any time.
How do I download a song?
- You may listen to a 30-second clip of a song before downloading.
- Once a song has been chosen, click on the "Download Now" link.
- At the prompt, select Save and choose the file location. If a prompt to save does not appear, try right-clicking the link and choosing the option to save the link (i.e. Save Target As, Save Link As, or Download Linked File, etc.).
- Note: Anytime you click on the "Download Now" link, even if you decide to cancel or play it, the download will count towards your weekly allotment.
What happens if I get an error while downloading?
- Songs may be downloaded two additional times if an error occurs.
- Click on RECENT DOWNLOADS at top of the web page to find those songs.
Can I download an entire album?
- No. Songs are available on an individual basis only.
Is there a download manager to install on my computer?
- No. There is no need to install anything on your computer.
Will the downloaded files work on the iPod or iPad?
- Yes. Download the files to the desktop or music folder, and import the files into iTunes.
- They will sync to the device the same way a song downloaded from iTunes syncs.
How do I burn music to a CD?
- Each computer system is different. Your computer may use iTunes, Windows Media Player or a third party software like Roxio. You will need to follow instructions found in the software for your individual music player and computer.
Can I use Freegal on the library’s computers?
- No. Since the music must be downloaded to a computer, and is yours to keep, you must use Freegal from your home computer.
Music is DRM free (Digital Rights Management).

How do I return items?
Items are automatically returned. There are no late fees. Kindle items may be returned early by accessing your kindle library at www.amazon.com.
How do I access Overdrive?
Log on to the Overdrive service by clicking the Overdrive logo above or navigating to http://smdl.lib.overdrive.com
Is there a cost for this service?
This service is free to patrons of Lincoln, Royalton, and Baroda Townships.
How do I login?
Select LOGIN or MY ACCOUNT to get started. Then select The Lincoln Township Public Library from the drop down menu. Enter the barcode number from the back of your Lincoln Township Public Library card.
How do I search for books?
You may search for books using the SEARCH BOX and entering a title, author, keyword, or subject. There are also options to search for books by category (i.e. Adult Fiction or Adult Nonfiction) or to search by format (i.e. Audiobooks or EPUB books).
Add books to your cart to check them out. When you are ready to check out, go to MY CART and select the CHECKOUT link.
How many items can I check out?
You may check out up to five items at any given time.
How do I download the books?
Once you have checked out the items you wish to read, you need to download each title to your computer and sync the title to your device (i.e. Sony eReader, Nook, iPod, etc.).
EPUB books require Adobe Digital Editions software. This software is free to download on the Overdrive checkout screen. Follow the onscreen directions to install.
PDF books may be viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader or on a device that supports .pdf files.
Kindle books are available. During the checkout process you will be redirected to the Amazon website to complete your download.
Audiobooks require the Overdrive Media Console software, which is also a free download available on the Overdrive checkout screen. Follow the onscreen directions to install.
Is my device compatible with Overdrive materials?

Can I check out any other materials or just books?
Overdrive also offers a variety of music files and videos. These items may be checked out from the Overdrive library and are returned automatically on the due date.
