STREAM Kits

Our collection of STREAM kits is meant to help young library users build their Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Math skills through engaging and innovative play. Keep reading to see what kits you can check out from LTPL, or place a hold on a kit here.

Why STREAM? STEAM is better than STEM, but STREAM is the best! Because it’s never too early to immerse your kiddo in language! Basically, STREAM adds one more layer to STEM and STEAM: Reading and writing.  Many educators see literacy as an essential part of creating a well-rounded curriculum, as it requires critical thinking as well as creativity.

Please remember that STREAM kits cannot be renewed, and kits can only be checked out on a library card that is in good standing. Parents or guardians checking out STREAM kits on behalf of their children shall consider the child’s age when selecting appropriate activities to take home. Please contact us if you have any questions.

IR Books

IR Books set with goggles
Immersive Reality (IR) Books combine cutting edge Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality technology with traditional children’s books. The first of their kind, IR Books redefine the learning experience and allow children ages 4-14 to “read it, see it, and live it.” With IR Books, young readers can find themselves floating in outer space, swimming with great white sharks, or skimming along the Great Wall of China – while learning about astronomy, zoology, and geography.

LTPL residents can access these exciting new Immersive Reality Books for free. All they need is a library card and a free app that’s available for both iOS and Android devices. Exploring new worlds is as simple as checking out an IR book, downloading the app, and popping on a set of goggles!

The books and the goggles are packaged in a plastic case. You can find all the available titles by searching “IR Books” in our online catalog and request them for pickup.
