Lincoln Township Public Library is now home to the Legal Self-Help at LTPL, which is a legal self-help center that provides tools and resources for the community to use when navigating and managing legal matters on their own.
The center has two designated computers and equipment for the community to access the Michigan Legal Help website. As well as trained Navigators who can assist visitors and provide legal information. The Self-Help Center is open during regular library hours beginning May 1.
Michigan Legal Help was created to help people who need to handle simple civil legal problems without a lawyer. There are articles you can read to learn about a specific area of the law and toolkits to help you prepare to represent yourself in court. Some forms are completed automatically once you answer simple questions.
Lincoln Township Public Library has two dedicated Self-Help stations with library staff who are trained to help visitors use the Michigan Legal Help website. These staff members are called “navigators,” and they can help you access information about handling some kinds of legal matters without a lawyer.
In addition to the website, navigators can help visitors find instructions for completing their legal process, answer simple questions about forms that are available on the website, and find community resources that may help with your legal problem. Navigators can provide legal information, but not legal advice. Navigators welcome any and all questions and will let you know if your question is outside of what they can provide. If you need legal advice, please contact a lawyer. If you would like help finding a lawyer, please use the Guide to Legal Help.
