Read a picture book and enjoy our local park!
If you love reading as a family, check out LTPL’s brand new StoryWalkⓇ on the walking path along S. Roosevelt Rd. or next to the Library! This exciting project is officially available today!
A StoryWalkⓇ presents a picture book page by page along a trail that you read while moving from display to display. The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and was developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
The StoryWalkⓇ begins behind the library and ends at John Beers and Roosevelt Rd. The displays include a complete picture book with early literacy talking points to enjoy together, a list of suggested extension activities to do at home, and a book quiz that kids can complete to earn a prize! The StoryWalkⓇ will feature a new book every season throughout the year.
Our first featured book is Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner. The book will take readers on a cross country ski trip through the winter woods to discover the secret world of animals living under the snow.
Throughout the book, Neal’s crisp, clean mixed-media illustrations cleverly provide above- and belowground views, and Messner’s back material will educate children about the subnivean zone and animal adaptations” – School Library Journal
Because a StoryWalkⓇ encourages both literacy and movement, it’s a perfect activity for families to enjoy together outside. Developing a sense of wonder and lifelong love of learning are key for early childhood success, and a StoryWalkⓇ is a unique way for families to grow and bond in a natural setting.
The Berrien Community Foundation sponsored the project and Fence Masters of Stevensville installed it in-kind.
Be sure to include #LTPLstorywalk and #LTPLreads in any photos you post!
